Reduction of downtime and complaints due to change of binding strips
The production plant ships plastic parts on pallets, which must be securely bundled and ready for international transport. Packaging reliability is key – even a small mistake can mean a delay in the line at the client’s site.
The client was using cheap PP tapes from a common supplier. However, they were encountering recurring problems:
- Weak strength of the tape, which often tore or loosened
- Incompatibility with their semi-automatic machine – the tape was jamming
- High complaint rate in customers’ warehouses (loose packages)
- Coil change downtime – every 2 hours
We carried out a technical inspection and testing of different types of tapes. We suggested:
- Polyester tape (PET) with a wider strength margin
- Optimised spool length (2 000 m instead of the original 1 000 m)
- Changing the tensioning mode on a semi-automatic strapping machine
- Staff training and regular service
