Stretch hood film packaging is a modern method of protecting pallets or larger packages using elastic, strong and transparent film that is stretched and placed like a “hood” on top of the pallet. This film tightly wraps the entire load, including the top and sides, ensuring the stability of the pallet during storage and transport.

Stretch hood film protects goods from adverse weather conditions, dust and moisture, while also helping to prevent damage during handling. Thanks to its flexibility, the film adapts to different load shapes and is quick and easy to use, saving time and increasing packaging efficiency.

A packaging workplace is a specifically designated and equipped space where all activities related to the packaging of products or materials are carried out. It is a place where products are prepared for packaging, the packaging itself is carried out using manual or automated equipment, and the packages are then prepared for storage, shipment, or further processing.

An efficiently equipped packaging workplace contains the necessary technology and equipment, such as packaging machines (e.g., strapping machines, stretch film machines, or shrink film machines), work tables, conveyors, racks for packaging materials, and ergonomic aids that increase productivity and work safety.

Bubble wrap is a flexible packaging material consisting of two layers of plastic film with air bubbles of various sizes between them. This material is used to protect products from impact, shock, and damage during storage, handling, and transport.

Thanks to the air bubbles, bubble wrap provides an excellent cushioning layer that absorbs shocks and reduces the risk of mechanical damage to fragile and sensitive products. It is used for packaging electronics, glass, ceramic products, furniture, as well as in the production and shipping of various consumer goods.

A battery is a device that stores electrical energy in chemical form and can convert it back into electrical current when needed. It consists of one or more electrochemical cells that supply electricity to power various devices.

Unlike a rechargeable battery, which can be recharged, a battery can also be disposable (non-explosive), meaning it is discarded after it has been discharged. It is used in a wide range of applications, from remote controls and watches to mobile phones and larger devices.

Tubeless stretch film is a type of stretch film used for secure and safe packaging of pallets and products without the use of a tube (core) inside the film roll. This type of film is wound directly onto the center of the roll without a solid plastic core, which reduces waste and improves the environmental sustainability of the packaging.

Core-less stretch film is very flexible, strong and better adapts to the shape of the package, ensuring stable securing of the load during storage and transport. Thanks to the absence of a core, it is lighter and its use can lead to material savings and reduced transport and storage costs.

A strapping tape reel is a cylindrical component onto which strapping tape is wound – a material used to securely bind and secure packages, pallets, or various products. The reel serves as a tape carrier and allows for easy unwinding during packaging, whether manually or as part of a machine process.

Reels are often made of plastic or sturdy paper and have a precisely defined diameter so that the tape holds firmly and does not unravel or become tangled during use. The quality and correct size of the reel are very important because they directly affect the smoothness of work and the trouble-free operation of strapping machines.

Choosing the right spool ensures that the strapping tape is easy and efficient to use, saving time, reducing downtime, and increasing overall packaging productivity.

Clear stretch film is a transparent, elastic packaging material used for secure and safe packaging of pallets or individual products. Thanks to its flexibility and stretchability, the film can tightly wrap around various shapes and sizes of cargo, ensuring its stability during storage and transport.

The clear (transparent) surface finish allows for easy identification of packaged goods without the need for unpacking, which facilitates inspection and handling. This type of film is very popular in warehouses and logistics because it protects goods from dust, moisture, and damage, while not obscuring their appearance.

Black stretch film is an elastic packaging material used for secure and safe packaging of pallets or products, effectively concealing the contents of the package thanks to its opaque black color. This film provides the same strength, flexibility, and protection as standard clear stretch film, but also ensures privacy and protection against unwanted viewing or UV radiation.

Black stretch film is ideal for packaging sensitive or valuable products where it is necessary to hide the contents from third parties. In addition to protecting against dust, moisture and damage, it also helps to improve safety during storage and transport.

The tape sealing time is the time during which heat or pressure is applied to the ends of the sealing tape when binding packages or products using binding machines, so that the joints are properly sealed and firmly connected. This time is a key parameter that affects the quality and strength of the sealed joint.

A correctly set sealing time ensures that the tape holds firmly and reliably, without the risk of tearing or loosening. If the sealing time is too short, the joint may not be strong enough; if the sealing time is too long, the tape may be damaged or the joint may be deformed.

A gravity conveyor is a simple type of conveyor system used to move goods or packages without the need for a motor drive. The movement of material is achieved thanks to the slope of the track and the force of gravity. Goods move downwards on their own on an inclined conveyor, or they can be moved manually along a flat track with the help of rotating rollers or pulleys.

Gravity conveyors most often consist of a frame and rollers (roller conveyor) or sliding rails (sliding conveyor). They are popular for their simplicity, easy maintenance, and low operating costs, as they do not require electricity or a motor.

A belt conveyor is a mechanical device designed for the continuous transfer of goods or materials from one place to another using an endless moving belt that is guided over rollers and driven by a motor. This type of conveyor is extremely versatile and is used to transport cartons, bags, bulk products, as well as irregular or fragile items.

The belt can be made of rubber, PVC, polyurethane, or other materials depending on the type of goods being transported. The advantage of a belt conveyor is that it ensures smooth and quiet operation, can move goods even on slight inclines or declines, and minimizes damage to the transported items.

A motorized conveyor is a device designed to automatically move goods or packages from one place to another using powered elements, such as powered rollers or a moving belt. Unlike gravity conveyors, which use only inclines and gravity, motorized conveyors contain an electric motor that actively moves the material.

This type of conveyor allows for precise control of the speed and direction of the flow of goods, which improves the smoothness of processes and reduces the need for manual handling. Motorized conveyors can be belt, roller, chain, or link conveyors, and are adapted to the specific type of product and operational requirements.

A roller conveyor is a device designed for horizontal or slightly inclined transport of goods using a series of rotating rollers (cylinders) arranged in a row within a frame. Goods move on these rollers either freely under the influence of gravity (gravity roller conveyor) or by means of a motor that drives the rollers (motorized roller conveyor).

Roller conveyors are used to transport various types of packages, cartons, crates, or pallets. They are particularly suitable for moving solid objects with flat bottoms. Thanks to their design, they enable quick handling, sorting, and temporary storage of goods in production and packaging lines.

The pattern of the binding tape refers to the surface structure (known as the relief or profile) of the binding tape, which is created during its manufacture. This pattern consists of fine grooves, ridges, or other patterns on the surface of the tape. Its main purpose is to improve the functional properties of the tape during the binding process and under load.

Why the pattern is important:
Improves joint hold: the pattern increases friction between the tape and the weld (or clip), so the tape holds better and minimizes the risk of slippage or loosening.

Reduces slippage: the surface structure prevents the tape from sliding easily over the surface of the package.
Promotes welding quality: some types of patterns are designed to fuse better during heat sealing of the tape and create a strong bond.

The type and depth of the pattern may vary depending on the manufacturer and whether the strapping tape is polypropylene (PP) or polyester (PET). The right choice of pattern also depends on the type of strapping machine and the strength requirements of the joint.

A stretch film core (also known as a caterpillar, carrier or inner reel) is a solid tube, usually made of pressed cardboard, onto which stretch film is wound. The core forms the center of the entire roll of film and allows for easy handling – whether for manual packaging (when the film is unwound by hand or with a dispenser) or when using automatic packaging machines.

Core parameters:

Core diameter (most commonly 50 mm or 76 mm) – must correspond to the unwinder or mechanism in the packaging machine.
Wall thickness and strength – ensures that the core does not deform during handling or storage.
Core width – same as the width of the wound film, typically 500 mm for standard pallet stretch film.

The cores are recyclable (paper) and can be returned for further processing after the film has been used up. The correct choice of core type and diameter is important for the smooth running of the packaging process and for compatibility with dispensers.

Dual motor pre-stretch is an advanced stretch film pre-stretch system used in automatic or semi-automatic wrapping machines. This system uses two independent electric motors that control the speed of two rollers (pre-stretch rollers). Thanks to the difference in their speeds, the film is stretched (pre-stretched) between them before it is wrapped around the pallet.

Pre-stretching the film in this way ensures significant material savings and, at the same time, very strong reinforcement of the packaged goods. It typically achieves a pre-stretch level of 200% to 400%, which means that 1 meter of film is stretched to 3-5 meters.

Advantages of dual-motor pre-stretching:

Precise control of film tension, which reduces material consumption and ensures better load securing.
Lower risk of film breakage, as the motors can sensitively adjust the tension according to the resistance of the film and the shape of the load.
Uniform pallet wrapping, which increases stability during handling and transport.
Possibility to set different pre-stretch levels for different types of goods.

Dual motor pre-stretch is mainly used in modern wrapping machines designed for high packaging volumes, where it brings significant film savings and improves packaging quality.

Tape dispensers are devices or tools designed for easy, quick, and accurate unwinding and cutting of adhesive or binding tape. They help facilitate packaging processes and increase productivity in manual or semi-automatic packaging.

These devices allow for comfortable holding of the tape reel and are equipped with a sharp knife or blade for clean and accurate separation of the tape to the desired length. Some dispensers are manual and simple, while others can be mechanical or electric, capable of automatically winding and cutting the tape to the exact length.

Types of tape dispensers:

packaging materials from natural sources (e.g., cardboard fillers instead of plastic),
optimization of carton dimensions to avoid transporting “air.”

An electromagnet is a special device inside packaging machines that generates a magnetic force when electricity is applied. This force is used to move various parts of the machine quickly and accurately.

In practice, this means that the electromagnet, for example:

presses or holds the tape during taping,

activates the brake or film tensioner,

opens or closes the knives that cut the tape or film.

The electromagnet is of great importance to the customer – thanks to it, the machines:

work faster and quieter,

wear less,

and the packaging is more reliable and uniform.

In this way, the electromagnet helps the packaging machine to always pack each package or pallet accurately and safely.

Labeling machines are devices that automatically or semi-automatically apply labels (stickers) to products, cartons, or packages.

These machines are mainly used for:

marking goods with a logo, name, or description,

applying barcodes or QR codes,

indicating the date of manufacture, batch, or expiration date.

In practice, this means that a labeling machine can quickly and accurately apply a label to each box or bottle without having to do it manually.

Eco-friendly filling is packaging material designed to protect products during transport and storage while minimizing the negative impact on the environment. Unlike traditional plastic fillings, eco-friendly fillings are made from natural, recycled, or easily biodegradable materials that are environmentally friendly and help reduce waste.

The most commonly used eco-friendly fillers include:

Paper fillers – such as shredded or corrugated paper, paper inserts, and filler inserts made from recycled paper.

Natural fibers – such as jute or coconut fibers, which are biodegradable and compostable.

Bioplastic pellets and films – made from corn starch or other renewable sources that decompose in nature.

Compostable fillers – materials intended for home or industrial composting that leave no harmful residues after use.

When packaging, the stretch film is stretched and tightly wrapped around the goods, ensuring their stability and protecting them from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage during storage or transport. Manual use of the film allows for flexible packaging even for smaller quantities of goods or in situations where a packaging machine is not available.

Key features of manual stretch film:

different thicknesses (usually 12–30 microns), which affect the strength and elasticity of the film
different reel widths (e.g. 500 mm) depending on the type of goods being packaged
high elasticity allows significant stretching of the film (200% and more) for secure fastening
available in various colors (clear, black, colored) depending on security or visual protection requirements

Machine stretch films are highly elastic polyethylene films wound on a core, designed primarily for use in automatic or semi-automatic wrapping machines. These films have special properties that allow them to be pre-stretched by machines, ensuring more efficient, secure, and economical packaging of pallet shipments and other goods.

Key features of machine stretch film:

Higher elasticity and strength — the special composition of the material allows it to be stretched up to 200–400% of its original length without breaking, enabling secure and stable packaging of cargo.
Optimized thickness and width — films are available in various thicknesses (usually 15–30 microns) and widths (500 mm and more) to suit the specifications of packaging machines and the type of goods being packaged.
Film pre-stretching using a machine — the machine can pre-stretch the film at a set ratio using pre-stretching rollers, which saves material and improves package strength.
Various colors and variants — the films can be clear, colored, black, or with various special treatments (e.g., UV stabilization, antistatic properties).

A frequency converter is an electronic device used to regulate the speed of electric motors by changing the frequency and voltage of the electric current supplied to the motor. In the packaging industry, frequency converters are mainly used for the smooth regulation of the speed of conveyors, packaging machines and other equipment, thereby increasing the efficiency and accuracy of the packaging process.

Main functions of a frequency converter:

enables smooth adjustment of the speed of the electric motor according to the needs of the production process
improves the energy efficiency of equipment by reducing electricity consumption at lower speeds
ensures smooth start-up and stopping of motors, thereby extending their service life and reducing wear on mechanical parts
provides motor protection against overload, short circuit or other faults

A photo sensor is an electronic device that detects the presence, distance, or movement of objects using light beams (usually infrared or visible light). In the packaging industry, photo sensors are used for precise control and monitoring of production and packaging processes.

How a photo sensor works:
A photo sensor emits a light beam that is reflected by an object or interrupted by its presence. Based on the change in the light signal, the photo sensor evaluates whether the object is in the desired location, which allows for the automatic start or stop of machines, counting of pieces, or detection of the correct placement of products.

Types of photo sensors:

Diffuse photo sensor: light is reflected directly from the object back to the sensor.

Reflective photo sensor: uses a mirror to reflect light back to the sensor.

Through-beam (barrier) photo sensor: consists of a transmitter and receiver located opposite each other; detects the interruption of the light beam by an object.

Horizontal packaging machines are automated or semi-automated devices designed for the packaging process, where the product is moved horizontally (horizontally) through the packaging unit. This type of machine is mainly used for packaging longer, bulky or irregular items that are difficult to package with traditional vertical packaging systems.

How horizontal packaging machines work:
The product is placed or moved onto the machine’s conveyor, where it passes through the packaging zone. There, the product is wrapped in film (e.g., stretch, shrink, or PE film), which is then sealed, shrunk, or fixed. This process ensures secure and aesthetic packaging that protects the product during storage and transport.

Horizontal strapping machines are specialized packaging devices designed for automatic or semi-automatic fastening of strapping bands around products that are oriented horizontally. These machines are often used for packaging longer or bulkier products that are difficult to bind with conventional vertical strapping devices.

How horizontal strapping machines work:
The product is fed into the machine along its horizontal axis, where it is surrounded by strapping tape. The machine automatically tensions the tape, ensures its precise placement around the product, and then welds or secures the tape with a clip. This process ensures a secure and stable binding without the need for manual handling.

Hot-melt adhesive is a thermoplastic adhesive that is applied in a molten state at high temperatures and quickly solidifies after application, creating a strong bond between different materials. In the packaging industry, hot melt adhesives are often used for fast and efficient bonding of cardboard, paper, film, and other packaging materials.

Impulse film welders are devices designed for strong and reliable welding of plastic packaging materials, especially various types of films (polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, etc.). The principle of their operation is based on the rapid heating of the welding wire loop by a short pulse of electrical energy, which allows for the immediate melting and joining of the films without burning them.

How impulse welders work:
After starting the welding cycle, the impulse unit supplies a short, precisely controlled electrical impulse to the heating loop, which causes the welding surface to heat up rapidly. The films melt and are pressed together to form a strong weld. After the impulse ends, the loop cools immediately, causing the weld to harden quickly.

Hot-Melt units are specialized devices designed for the application of hot melt adhesive (Hot-Melt adhesive) in packaging, gluing, and bonding processes. Hot-melt units heat solid adhesive to a high temperature, melting it into a liquid form, which is then precisely applied to the desired areas of the material. After cooling, the adhesive quickly solidifies, creating a strong and durable bond.

How Hot-Melt units work:
The adhesive in the form of granules, blocks or sticks is placed in the unit’s tank, where it is melted using electric heating. The melted adhesive is then dispensed through nozzles directly onto the packaging material (cardboard, paper, film, etc.) using a pump or pressure. The process is fully automated or semi-automated depending on the type of equipment.

Metal clips are small, strong fasteners made of steel or other metal materials that are used to mechanically fasten strapping bands around packages, pallets, or other objects. They are mainly used in cargo strapping and securing processes where high strength and durability of the joint is required.

Use of metal clips:
The clips are placed on the ends of the strapping tape, which are then compressed using special pliers or an automatic strapping machine head. This creates a strong, mechanical connection that prevents the tape from loosening or unraveling during storage and transport.

A flap frame is a special packaging component that serves as a supporting and reinforcing part of a cardboard box or flap packaging. This frame ensures that the flaps of the box fit tightly and hold the shape of the packaging, thereby increasing its stability and protecting the packaged goods during storage and transport.

Function of the flap frame:
The flap frame is usually made of solid cardboard or corrugated cardboard and is designed to fit into the inner walls of the box. When the box is assembled, the flaps of the frame hold their shape and prevent deformation of the packaging.
